Revlon Selects: Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick

Revlon recently had posted on Facebook that they were offering the chance for 500 ladies to be sent a box of Revlon’s newest goodies in a new program called Revlon Selects. I was one of 500 lucky ladies to be chosen, and I will be reviewing some of the products that they sent me here on my blog. I only just saw these products pop up my local Walmart on Monday, which was also the day that I got my Revlon Selects package in the mail so they must have just arrived in Canada.
Most of you know that I am in love with Revlon’s lip products. I am starting to grow quite the collection, and can’t get enough of them. So it’s only fair that my first review is going to be for the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Backstage.
Is your lipstick giving you both moisture and wear? This velvety soft formula with moisturizing shea butter and aloe is food proof and doesn’t quit. 20 Shades. Apply once and go. -Revlon
Backstage is a dark, vampy burgundy red shade which is a perfect colour for fall and winter. It isn’t a shade I would personally purchase myself, but it is a beautiful lipstick nonetheless. I’ve been wearing it for the past few days testing the wear, and I’ve actually grown to like the colour a lot! I was a bit worried at first when I swatched it, but I am glad I have a colour like this in my collection now.
The texture is like it describes, velvety smooth and glides effortlessly across the lips. It has a balm like feel when you first apply it, but when it starts to dry it dries to an almost matte finish. This lipstick stayed put fairly well when I was eating, but it started to get patchy after an hour or so. With a dark colour like this it is really noticeable where the lipstick has worn off and it’s not a good look. I found the remnants of the lipstick difficult to take off at the end of the night as it stained my lips- to be expected from darker shades though. I did not find the lipstick to be moisturizing at it claims, I actually found it drying.
Tips: If you have drier lips you will need to exfoliate or use a lip balm prior to applying this as it tends to settle into the lines and dry parts of your lips. I also recommend using a lip liner beforehand as it can bleed around the edges of the lips.
All in all I give this lipstick about a 3/5. The colour is stunning, but stains the lips terribly. It bleeds around the edges of the lips, and after a half hour or so of wear it gets quite drying. I didn’t like that this lipstick gets patchy easily, and is difficult to take off at the end of the night. I am really surprised because I love Revlon’s lip products, but this one was just sort of “meh” for me. I’m not sure how the other shades perform, but I am curious to try some out to see.Have you tried the Ultimate Suede lipsticks? What was your experience with them? Also if anyone has any recommendations on a really amazing lip moisturizer I will be forever in your debt!
